    I heart eagles

    Thursday, May 10, 2007, 01:40 AM [General]

Eee! I'm watching a silly rerun of AFV (it's Bad TV time of the evening and this is more entertaining than the news) and they had a golden eagle in the studio!

Eeeeeeee! ^_^ One of my Guides is a Golden Eagle; in fact, the Golden Eagle is one of my power animals. So I am happy. And now I must move to Scotland, so that I might be around Golden Eagles on a more regular basis (ie, at all).

    Magazines and job searches

    Monday, April 30, 2007, 03:49 AM [General]

Does anyone know of any Pagan-related magazines in New Zealand? Failing that, know any generalised southern hemisphere ones, especially ones based in Australia?

See, I'm currently looking for work. And failing to find any. Since one of the things I'm actually good at is writing, and I hate mainstream journalism, I've been looking for literary mags to which to contribute. It occured to me that I could also contribute a thing or two to a Pagan mag, maybe even get a long-term job with one (as opposed to literary mags, when usually all you get is a free issue or about $20). But then it occured to me that I'd never really seen one of these magazines... even at Borders, which is usually pretty good.

I can't find any. Maybe this is just my brain exploding from basic frustration, but maybe not. If anyone could help me out with titles (and hopefully website links as well) I'd be really grateful. It probably won't come to anything but they'd be good to have anyway.

It sucks being young and inexperienced with a Bachelor's in a useless subject. I mean, psych is a cool subject, but you can't actually get a job without postgrad. Gah.

    Wolfspirit's Wiccan School and Community

    Monday, April 23, 2007, 01:44 AM [General]

Hey everyone. I just thought I'd let everyone know about WWSC: Wolfspirit's Wiccan School and Community. It's only just been set up but it looks like it'll be awesome once it gets up and running. At the moment they're offering beginners classes in several different areas. There are Pagan courses as well as just Wiccan ones, and they hope to set up some intermediate and advanced classes a bit later on.

The best part is that it's FREE, which quite frankly is what all online schools should be.

It might not be for everyone but if you're learning or know someone who is, it's definitely worth checking out. There are also positions open for teachers and moderators. See Wolfspirit's Covenspace page or check out the site itself.

    Blessed Be, everyone!

    Thursday, March 15, 2007, 12:56 AM [General]

Today's one of those days when everything Pagan-related makes you smile. I posted a link to the LJ Pagan comm on Witchvox, and started a discussion-post on the comm, which is good. Mabon is coming up, and I'd love to write a ritual for it. This is a bit out of character for me.

Generally, I don't write or follow rituals. If I celebrate a Sabbat in ritual form, it will be informal and loose and generally I make it up as I go along. But I'm a lover of ritual in general - I'm one of those people who thinks the Catholics lost something important when they chucked out their ritual language and started having services in English. I think the problem might be that in the past, I've always been following a ritual I found online or in a book, and they felt false to me. I ended up feeling rather silly. I could never memorise all the lines anyway, and what was the point? The idea was to celebrate, not to recite a whole lot of lines. But it never occurred to me that the problem might reside in the fact that I was performing someone else's rituals. I might start writing my own... but...

At the moment I'm still living at home because I don't have a job. I can't wait to go flatting, chiefly because I have too much stuff to fit in my room. I found a "glory box" - a chest, in which I've been storing all my Pagan stuff. Unfortunately, given the size of my room at the moment, there's a whole bunch of stuff piled on top of it (teddy bears, stereo etc) and it's in the wrong area. As a result, I can't set up my altar. It chafes, because I've been looking for a big chest like this for aaaages, and now I have one, I can't use it! >_< Argh. So, even if I wrote that ritual, I won't be able to perform it.

Oh well! it's a good day anyway. Keep smilin'!

    Quote of the Moment

    Tuesday, March 13, 2007, 06:49 AM [General]

I subsribe to about.com's Pagan Daily Devotionals. Most of them are little stories - there was a good Taoist one the other day - or little facts about a certain tarot card or herb.

But my favourite ones are the little quotes that really get to you, the ones that speak about your faith on a deep level, and say something that you hadn't really thought too hard about before but which is nonetheless true.

Today's devotional was one of those sayings. I felt the need to share it with someone. It is attributed to "an unidentified native american woman" and reads as follows:

"If you leave the Christian Bible outside, eventually the wind and the rain will destroy it. My bible IS the wind and the rain."
